Chinese Cabbage – Wong Bok
Sow 12mm deep directly into the garden bed; Plant spacing at 30cm; Germination period between 6 and 10 days; Soil temperatures between 7˚C and 24˚C; Harvest time approx. 8 to 10 weeks.
Wong Bok is an easy to grow Chinese cabbage that can be grown in autumn or spring. Compared to traditional European cabbage, it has a more delicate flavour and texture. It does not transplant well, so best to plant seeds directly into the garden bed or container. Containers need to be at least 20cm in diameter. Best results are achieved with well-drained, moist soil that is rich in organic matter. Wong bok prefers cool weather and will bolt to seed if temperatures exceed 24˚C. Chinese cabbage is frost sensitive, so plant in early autumn to harvest before winter frosts.Good companion plants – cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts
