Chives - Onion Common
Season – spring to autumn; Sow direct or in trays on surface or lightly covered; Plant spacing at 5cm; Germination period between 10 to 14 days; Soil temperatures between 10˚C and 30˚C; Harvest time approx. 7-11 weeks.
Chives tolerate a large range of soil conditions, and full sun or part shade. Regular cutting promotes vigorous growth and spreading. Divide and replant clumps every 3 to 5 years. Chives are a perennial crop that die down in winter. Remove flowers to encourage continuous leaf production.
