Kale – Dwarf Green Curled
Kale Dwarf Green is a tightly frilled kale with tender leaves and sweeter flavour than other kales. It performs well even in poor soils and harsh winters.
Season – autumn; Sow at 7mm deep; Plant spacing at 20cm; Rows at 45-50cm apart; Germination period 4 to 7 days; Soil temperatures between 8˚C and 30˚C; Harvest time approx. 7-9 weeks.
An excellent heirloom, Red Russian kale can be sown direct in the garden, or in seed trays and planted out in 4 to 6 weeks. Prefers full sun and well drained, rich soil, but tolerates poor soils. Best results are achieved with the addition of added compost or manure prior to planting, also lime. Frost develops the flavour, and harvesting can be done leaf by leaf as needed, or the entire plant. Young leaves can be eaten raw, and older leaves are best cooked.
