Mustard Greens - Purple Frills
Brassica juncea
A deeply serrated, frilly mustard with purple leaves and green stems. A cut and come again plant with pungent mustard flavour.
Sow 1cm deep; Plant spacing at 10-15cm apart; Germination period between 5-10 days; Soil temperatures between 10˚C and 35˚C; Harvest time approx. 5-8 weeks.
Mustard greens are a fast-growing leafy plant that can be grown for their leaves or seeds. Plant in full sun or part shade. Best results are gained with well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Needs plenty of water and regular feeds of liquid manure to prevent a bitter flavour. Companions– bush beans, beets, celery, cucumber, onions, and aromatic herbs.
